His father, Teel Madhav Devkota, was a scholar of Sanskrit, and his mother, Amar Rajyalakshmi, encouraged him to learn and explore literature from an early age. Devkota was a brilliant student. He studied at Durbar High School, the oldest school in Nepal, and later completed his higher education in India, earning a degree in arts and law. Despite his strong academic performance, he faced financial difficulties throughout his life, making it hard to pursue his studies freely. These struggles later shaped his outlook on life and the themes he explored in his writings.


Literary Journey

Laxmi Prasad Devkota is best known for his poetry, but he was a versatile writer who contributed to many forms of literature, including essays, plays, short stories, and novels. His most famous work is the epic poem Muna Madan, which tells the story of the hardships faced by a man named Madan, who leaves his wife, Muna, to earn a living but encounters tragedy.
